MULTISTREAM

HypeTally Multistream Setup: Stream to YouTube and Twitch from One OBS

HypeTally Multistream is a subscriber-only OBS plugin that sends one program feed to YouTube and Twitch at the same time. Connect your HypeTally account for overlays, link each platform once, and start streaming without a third-party restream bill.

12 min read

HypeTally Multistream lives inside OBS as a dock — not a separate encoder. You keep your existing scenes, audio, and HypeTally Browser Source overlays, then add second RTMP outputs for each destination. Because the plugin checks your HypeTally subscription when you connect, downloads stay in the creator dashboard behind login.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
  • OBS Studio 32.2.x (64-bit) — match the version bundled with the installer notes
  • An active HypeTally subscription tied to your creator profile
  • Twitch and/or YouTube accounts with streaming permissions

Install the OBS plugin

  1. Quit OBS completely (check the system tray).
  2. Download the zip from your Multistream dashboard page.
  3. Extract the archive and right-click Install.ps1 → Run with PowerShell. Approve the admin prompt.
  4. Start OBS. Open Docks → HypeTally Multistream.
  5. Optional: open Docks → HypeTally Donations for live tip alerts if donations are enabled on your account.

Prefer manual install? Copy the contents of the bundled obs-studio folder into C:\Program Files\obs-studio\ so you have obs-plugins\64bit\hypetally-multistream.dll and the matching data\obs-plugins\hypetally-multistream\ resources.

Connect HypeTally (required)

Before you can stream, link the plugin to your HypeTally creator account. In the Multistream dock, open Settings (gear icon) and choose Connect HypeTally. Your browser opens the HypeTally login page; after you sign in, control returns to OBS with a secure token.

  • The plugin calls /api/me to load your slug, overlay URLs, and subscription status.
  • If your subscription lapses, reconnect after renewing — streaming outputs stay disabled until the account is active again.
  • Use the same account you manage in the HypeTally dashboard so overlays and goals stay in sync.

Link Twitch and YouTube

Each platform uses OAuth from inside the dock — you do not paste stream keys manually unless you add a custom RTMP destination.

  1. In Multistream settings, connect Twitch and authorize the HypeTally application.
  2. Connect YouTube the same way. Pick the channel you stream on if prompted.
  3. Confirm each destination shows as ready in the dock output list.
  4. Adjust per-platform encode settings only if your upload bandwidth is tight — most creators can mirror the main OBS output.

Already connected YouTube or Twitch in the web dashboard? The dock OAuth is separate — it grants RTMP publish access to OBS. Keep your dashboard connections for like counters, subs, and chat overlays.

Add HypeTally overlays without copy-paste

Once HypeTally is connected, use Add overlays from HypeTally in the dock. The plugin injects Browser Sources sized to your active preset — likes, subs, Twitch alerts, donation tickers, and more — using the same URLs you would copy from the dashboard.

  • Customize look-and-feel in the visual overlay editor first; Multistream pulls live URLs from your profile.
  • Place injected sources on your main streaming scene before going live.
  • For donation alerts, open the optional Donations dock after connecting Stripe in the dashboard.

New to Browser Sources? Read our YouTube OBS overlay guide for sizing and refresh tips that apply to injected overlays too.

Go live on both platforms

  1. Set your OBS scene and run a quick mic/camera check.
  2. In the Multistream dock, click Start both (or start individual outputs if you only need one platform).
  3. Alternatively use OBS Start Streaming if the plugin is wired to your main control — both paths start the configured RTMP outputs.
  4. Verify each platform dashboard shows “live” within a few seconds.
  5. End the stream from the dock or OBS when finished — both destinations stop together.

Troubleshooting

  • Dock missing after install: Restart OBS, then check Docks → HypeTally Multistream. Re-run Install.ps1 if the plugin DLL is not under Program Files.
  • Connect HypeTally fails: Confirm you are logged into the same email as your dashboard account and that your subscription is active.
  • One platform will not start: Re-authorize that platform in settings and confirm you are not already live elsewhere with the same channel.
  • Overlays blank: Connect HypeTally first, re-add overlays, and ensure your slug’s overlay URLs load in a normal browser.
  • High CPU: Lower output resolution or disable duplicate encoder presets in the dock output settings.
